Hotelier Freshers Meet-up

It is fall, which means we’re back to classes, tight schedules, tests, exams and part-time jobs.  A freshers party usually consists of dance programs, speeches, plays, food, etc. It is an event organized by seniors for the first years. With speeches, games, tasks and challenges, student parties and get-togethers are usually memorable events for everyone.

To mark the start of our fall semester we decided to host a fresher’s meet-up for our new students. We have students from different cultural backgrounds who come together to work closely with each other. The purpose of the meeting is to ease the tension and nerves they may have with a fun icebreaker.

We started by playing a game of names, it went like this:

• The first person starts a timer and says his/her name
• Based on their seating arrangement each person said their name
• The last person stops the timer after saying his/ her name

This process is repeated to determine the shortest time for everyone to say their name. During this exercise, people became more comfortable and familiar with each other. Our shortest time was 4 seconds, can you beat that?

The countdown has started; we have 3 days left before the start of the fall semester. How do you feel right now, nervous, tense, excited or just wishing summer could last a little longer?
